Where To Watch Fight Club – Screen Rant

Published

Discover where to watch Fight Club, the 90s film from David Fincher that went on to become one of the biggest cult classics in history.
Find out where to watch David Fincher’s cult classic "Fight Club," a searing exploration of contemporary masculinity and the walls it puts up against experiencing healthy emotions and relationships.
"Fight Club" follows an unnamed protagonist as he attempts to deal with his insomnia in increasingly destructive ways that eventually throws his life completely off the rails.
The story of "Fight Club" comes from a book of the same name by author Chuck Palahniuk, released three years prior to the film in 1996. Palahniuk wrote his debut novel in his spare time when working as a mechanic. The concept sprung from wanting to create a discussion about masculinity and consumerism, however, the idea wasn’t crystallized for him until a camping trip went wrong.

After asking fellow campers to turn down their music, Palahniuk got into a physical altercation that left him with some very visible wounds. When he returned to work that Monday, instead of being bombarded with questions as he thought he would be, Palahniuk found that all his co-workers avoided him like the plague, acting as if nothing was amiss. It was at that moment he realized that if you look bad enough, people will avoid asking any questions because they simply didn’t want to know what had happened. It was this seemingly small discovery which lead Palahniuk to form the idea of "Fight Club."
The film begins with Edward Norton ("American History X," "Primal Fear") playing an unnamed protagonist with a horrific case of insomnia. When his doctors refuse to take his illness seriously, he finds himself pretending to be terminally ill at various support groups, and the emotional release of crying with these people is seemingly the only thing that will allow him to sleep.
On his way home from a work trip, he meets the charismatic Tyler Durden, played by Brad Pitt ("Thelma and Louise," "Moneyball"). The fleeting interaction sees the two men go their separate ways until Norton’s character returns home to find his apartment blown up and no one to call except Durden.
The film then follows these two characters as they try to give their lives new meaning outside the superficial, consumer-driven world they feel they have been force-fed. As they establish their fight club, the men must interrogate what is really driving them and what extremes they will resort to in order to change the status quo.
David Fincher’s name has become synonymous with a certain brand of psychological thriller that pushes the boundaries of what we consider to be good and moral, earning him the title of America’s most horrifying director. His library of films includes the crime-horror story "Se7en" with Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman; the controversial Gillian Flynn adaptation "Gone Girl;" and the Mark Zuckerberg biopic "The Social Network." penned by screenwriting legend, Alan Sorkin. "Fight Club" not only fits right into Fincher’s auteur niche but helped define it in his early career starting off in the 1990s.
His off-beat work is continuing this year with the release of "Mank," another biopic, this time about the infamous screenwriter Herman J. Mankiewicz who wrote the legendary "Citizen Kane." This new work looks to be one close to Fincher’s heart, as it was actually written by his late father back in the 90s.
"Fight Club" was made in 1999 by David Fincher and stars Edward Norton and Brad Pitt. With a run time of two hours and nineteen minutes and rated R, "Fight Club" is available to stream now on Amazon Prime.
