After close to 20 years, David Fincher’s “The Killer” is finally coming soon.
The Oscar-winning director has been attached to the project since 2007, where “The Killer” was set at Paramount. The film is now at Netflix under Fincher’s overall deal with the streamer, with Michael Fassbender starring in the titular assassin role. “The Killer” is penned by “Seven” and “Fight Club” screenwriter Andrew Kevin Walker and marks Fincher’s first film since 2020’s “Mank.” Fincher is collaborating again with “Mank” cinematographer Erik Messerschmidt, who won an Academy Award for his work on the Netflix period biopic after working with Fincher on “Mindhunter.”
Per the official description, “The Killer” follows a cold-blooded assassin who begins to have a psychological crisis in a world with no moral compass. Netflix teased: “Solitary, cold, methodical, and unencumbered by scruples or regrets, a killer waits in the shadows, watching for his next target. Yet, the longer he waits, the more he thinks he’s losing his mind, if not his cool.”
The film is slated to debut on Netflix November 10.
Below, keep scrolling for all the details on Fincher’s “The Killer.”
Michael Fassbender is set to lead “The Killer.” The official character description reads that Fassbender will play an assassin who begins to psychologically crack as he develops a conscience, even as his clients continue to demand his skills.
Netflix’s film chief Scott Stuber called Fassbender’s performance rooted in his own “charming and great-looking and funny” persona, or as Stuber added, “all these things that you want him to have chances to show in film.”
Stuber continued, “He’s a giant star ready to explode in the world, and he’s just looking for those parts that can take advantage of who he is as a person. Opportunistically you see what David has done with talent throughout his career, and how he constantly elevates people to do their best work. The combination of those two we’re really excited about.”
Tilda Swinton co-stars alongside Fassbender in “The Killer,” with “Top Gun: Maverick” star Charles Parnell, Arliss Howard, and Sophie Charlotte rounding out the cast.
Fincher’s “Seven,” “Fight Club,” and “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” star Brad Pitt was originally attached to “The Killer” when the project was back at Paramount.
Production on “The Killer” began in November 2021 in Paris, with additional filming taking place in New Orleans, the Dominican Republic, and Illinois. Fincher was spotted having lunch with “Mank” actress Lily Collins in France. Collins’ casting has not been announced in association with “The Killer” as of print.
Production wrapped in late March 2022. “The Killer” is set to be released November 10 on Netflix.
Netflix’s Scott Stuber praised David Fincher’s partnership with lead actor Michael Fassbender, saying in 2021, “Opportunistically you see what David has done with talent throughout his career, and how he constantly elevates people to do their best work. The combination of those two we’re really excited about.
Stuber added, “‘The Killer’ is based on a graphic novel and it is about someone who is a contract killer and the methodology of that world and what he does, which David does detail better than anyone. He’s so good in the detail of method, of watching something unfold. Seeing that early stages of what he does, and something goes awry which then affects him personal.”
David Fincher’s “The Killer” is already being teased by Netflix as a “really fun, big” blockbuster with a “provocative” twist.
“It’s David working with Andrew Kevin Walker again for the first time in a long time [since ‘Seven’]. It’s a really provocative and interesting movie. He’s just in the midst of shooting it right now,” Netflix executive Scott Stuber said. “It’s a really fun, big movie in the hands of one of the best filmmakers, and someone we’re really lucky to have a relationship with.”
Michael Fassbender revealed during a behind-the-scenes video of “The Killer” that he considered working with David Fincher to be a “great privilege and honor,” calling Fincher “one of the best filmmakers out there.”
Fassbender’s “dream come true” experience marked his return to Hollywood since 2019 pre-pandemic. “I was definitely ready to go back to work,” the “Shame” actor said. “With somebody of David’s caliber, it was a very special opportunity for me.”

What time is Anthony Joshua vs Robert Helenius today? Schedule, main card start time for 2023 boxing fight – Sporting News

Former two-time heavyweight champ Anthony Joshua is determined to stay active, so when old foe Dillian Whyte was pulled from the O2 Arena card at just seven days’ notice, the immediate goal was to find AJ a replacement opponent.
Whyte failed a VADA test, so a long-awaited rematch with Joshua went down the drain, conceivably with his career as a serious heavyweight contender. Replacing him will be former two-time European champion Robert Helenius, who knocked off some ring rust on Saturday past by posting a third-round stoppage of the unknown Mika Mielonen.

The good news is that Helenius is in fighting shape. The bad news is he’s been installed as a +1000 underdog to derail Joshua, who is looking for some ring time ahead of a potential showdown with former WBC champion Deontay Wilder.
Will Joshua swat Helenius aside and face “The Bronze Bomber”, or will “The Nordic Nightmare” produce one of the biggest upsets in heavyweight history?

Joshua vs. Helenius will be on August 12.  The main card starts at 7 p.m. local time, which is 2 p.m. ET and 11 a.m. PT.
