Breaking down Jake Paul's boxing career record: Ranking YouTube … – Sporting News
Since 2020, the Jake Paul has taken over the boxing world. The YouTuber has knocked out four of the five opponents he has faced and has improved with every fight. Paul’s YouTuber-turned-boxer path has ignited debates about whether he’s ultimately good for the sport.
Just how legitimate is he inside the ring?
In the past, Paul (5-0) has faced NBA stars, YouTubers, and former MMA champions. He is scheduled to face his toughest opponent to date in former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva.
Following a career in which he went 34-11 with one no-contest, Silva left MMA behind in 2020 to focus on boxing. “The Spider” previously competed in a boxing ring in 1998 and 2005, going 1-1. He returned in 2021, beating Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in Mexico. In September 2021, Silva knocked out former MMA fighter Tito Ortiz in the first round. He recently fought Bruno Machado this past May in a non-scored bout.
There’s little doubt that Paul has become a massively popular draw. The Sporting News has provided a breakdown of his five previous fights, ranking them from easiest to hardest.

After beating AnEsonGib in his first pro bout (we’ll get to him) and demanding KSI right after, Paul went on a different route and faced three-time NBA Slam Dunk Champion Nate Robinson. The fight was on a card featuring a returning Mike Tyson facing Roy Jones Jr. It was the perfect addition to the Triller Fight Club-hosted event.
Robinson was dropped late in the first round after Paul engaged within the clinch. In the second, Paul dropped Robinson two more times. The second knockdown caused Robinson to fall face first. Paul was awarded the win after the referee called the fight off.
“The Problem Child” looked like an improved fighter, even though his opponent was a non-factor.
Paul’s first fight was against YouTube star AnEsonGib, who actually had boxing experience thanks to two amateur bouts.
Paul had the clear size advantage, and AnEsonGib could not steady himself when Paul launched power shots at him. He scored three knockdowns against AnEsonGib, and the referee had no choice but to call the fight off and give Paul the TKO win.
The 25-year-old fought on a legit boxing card in Miami, highlighted by Demetrius Andrade vs. Luke Keeler. It was a small taste of things to come.
The most memorable fight will always be your first, but it wasn’t the best.

This did not last longer than the Nate Robinson fight. In fact, it could be argued that Robinson put on a better performance than Askren.
After fighting YouTube stars and NBA players, Paul fought an actual combat sports star in Askren. The former ONE and Bellator welterweight champion was coming off a two-fight losing streak in the UFC. His reputation for having a unique personality was perfect at the time for Paul.
It was an easy win for Paul, who knocked out what seemed like an unmotivated Askren less than two minutes into the first round.
This was the first time Paul went the distance, and it was against another MMA fighter in Tyron Woodley. Compared to Askren, however, Woodley, a former UFC welterweight champion, was in prime shape. The beef between the two helped sell the fight.
Paul was economical in his punches, landing 35 power shots. He did land 71 shots overall compared to 52 for Woodley. It looked as though Woodley had Paul by the ropes and was ready to end it. Paul was able to recover, and the fight went the distance.
“The Problem Child’” won via split decision, but it wasn’t over between the two.

In December 2021, Paul was ready to fight rival Tommy Fury. Training hard for the “Love Island” star, Paul was blindsided when it was revealed that Fury had to back out of the bout due to a broken rib.
Luckily, Paul’s rivalry with Woodley was just starting. With about two weeks before fight night (Dec. 18), Woodley stepped up and took on Paul. Just like their first fight, it was competitive from the start. Both fighters were trying to find an opening. It appeared we were heading towards another bout where the judges were needed.
Paul ended all doubt with one swing.
Paul landed a massive shot that dropped Woodley down to the floor. He was out cold, and Paul posed in front of a shocked crowd. While it wasn’t as competitive as the first fight, the knockout made it a bout and moment to remember.

Chicago boxer Kenneth Sims Jr. at No. 2 world ranking – CBS News

/ CBS Chicago
CHICAGO (CBS) — Englewood native Kenneth Sims Jr. is making noise in pro boxing.
His latest win last month was his seventh straight, and a WBA super lightweight title eliminator. But as CBS 2’s Jori Parys reported Monday, Sims has fought through obstacles to get where he is – including managing sickle cell.
Sims put on a pair of boxing gloves for the first time at 8 years old.
“My dad forced me to box – and I hated it,” Sims said.
But the young Sims was a natural.
“He picked up things so fast that it was like, ‘Oh, show him this – he has it,” said Sims’ dad, Kenneth Sims Sr.
“He was like, ‘When you learn how to it, you can quit,'” said Sims Jr. “By that point, I didn’t want to quit.”
Sims has fought around the world as a member of the USA Boxing national team, and turned pro in 2014.
He rattled off a 2021 record with seven knockouts since.
But Sims’ latest win raised eyebrows. A 12-round bout against Batyr Akhmedov being ended by majority decision came as no surprise to Sims.
“I seen all the tweets people talk about me seen article people talk about me,” said Sims. “So it was like satisfying to prove them wrong – and satisfying prove people that believed in me right.”
What did Sims prove to himself in that fight?
“Nothing. Nothing,” he said. “I just did what I knew I could do.”
Sims hasn’t lost since a fight since 2018. That was when he noticed something felt off.
“All my energy just went away, and I was just like this – kind of like a zombie before the fight,” said Sims.
Sims was dealing with the side effects of sickle cell – a disease that affects red blood cells’ shape and ability to carry oxygen.
“The first thing they tell you about it is to be careful of strenuous work – so that’s his life,” said Sims’ fiancée, Jailyn Brown. “He has to be sure that he’s taking vitamins; be sure that he’s very hydrated.”
“My mind’s saying do stuff in the ring, but I can’t move, really – my body won’t let me do it. It was a big obstacle for me to overcome,” Sims said. “After I lost, my team, my uncle, my dad – we all was doing research. Went to the doctor got bloodwork stuff done, and I hired nutritionists and stuff. Since I’ve been working with them, I’ve been feeling great.”
Sims ascension to No. 2 in WBA rankings hasn’t come without its challenges but all have led to the present point – preparing with hopes for a world title shot.
“This is where you’re supposed to be. I’ve always said that,” said Sims Sr. “The community we come in you have to figure out how to get through things and that’s always what I’ve preached to him.”
Sims Jr. – a boxer known as “Bossman” – is a true family man with kids of his own, and credits his family as his inspiration. He said it means a lot to be from Chicago, and hopes to one day bring a world title fight to his home city.
Until then, the pro boxer from Englewood will keep working to make his dreams a reality.
“Growing up, I used to watch showtime championship boxing,” said Sims. “Now I’m on it.”
Three fights ago, sims wasn’t ranked. Now he’s No. 2 in world, and will get the first shot to challenge for a world title.

Bar owner among 2 killed after fight leads to shooting outside Sacramento County bar – CBS News

/ CBS Sacramento
SACRAMENTO COUNTY – Two men died after they were shot outside of a bar in Sacramento County early Sunday morning, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies responded to Sacto By Night at 7121 Governors Circle at about 1:45 a.m.
A group of people who were leaving the bar got into a fight outside, leading to a shooting, deputies said.
The victims, who were two men, died at the scene, deputies said. One of them was the owner of the bar.
Investigators with the sheriff’s office believe a group of gang members who initially refused to leave the nightclub at closing is at the center of the incident. Those gang members apparently got involved in a fight in the parking lot, investigators said, with the suspected shooter being one of those gang members.
Witnesses described a white vehicle that took off from the scene. Deputies said the CHP located a vehicle matching the description and detained four people from that vehicle.
The people detained have since been identified as being allegedly involved in the shooting. Several guns have been recovered.
According to the sheriff’s office, the names of the suspects will be released once homicide and related charges are filed.
Brandon comes to CBS13 from Action News Now (KHSL/KNVN) in Chico where he spent two years as the Digital Content Manager.
