Boxing News: Munguia-Derevyanchenko undercard set » August 15 … – Fight News
Three ten rounders have been added to the the Munguia Derevyanchenko card on DAZN scheduled for Saturday, June 10 at Toyota Arena in Ontario, California.
Returning the ring for the second time in 2023, middleweight Shane Mosley, Jr. (19-4, 10 KOs) will face D’Mitrius “Big Meech” Ballard (21-1-1, 13 KOs) in the co-main event. Also, 43-year-old former female world champion Mariana “Barby” Juarez (55-12-4, 19 KOs) will battle Mayeli Flores (9-1-1, 3 KOs) in a super bantamweight fight and Ricardo “El Niño” Sandoval (21-2, 16 KOs) will face Rocco “So Cal Kid” Santomauro (22-1, 6 KOs) at flyweight.
Other fights include super featherweight Jorge “El Niño Dorado” Chavez (6-0, 5 KOs) against Christian “El Niño” Lorenzo (3-4, 1 KO) in a six-rounder, and a four-round super welterweight fight between Anthony Saldivar (3-0, 1 KOs) and Jerome Clayton (2-1-1, 2 KOs).
Mariana “Barby” Juarez (55-12-4, 19 KOs). 71 bouts is the most I can recall seeing for any female boxer. Did a quick search to see what the record is for that, and came up with nothing. Anybody know the answer to this?
I did come across a Barbara Buttrick, who supposedly had over 1,000 bouts with men, but only 18 professional women’s matches.
You ask that USF and I remember seeing a girl who had one of those journeymen style records not too long ago, let’s see if I can find her.
Okay, I don’t know if she has the record, but look up a Karina Szmalenberg. She has 75 (been stopped only 3 times in 57 losses, once by Katie Taylor, once by Maiva Hamadouche), I don’t know if that’s the record, but I’ll keep looking and I’ll let you know if I find anything.
Okay, nevermind, ignore that one ^ or wherever it is in relation to this one. Klaudia Ferenczi is 30 years old (just turned 30 in April) and has 132 fights including 4 already this year and with as many times as she’s fought in England, she’s probably the one with the crazy record I was referring to when I found Szmalenberg.
Klaudia Ferenczi. 20-102-9 (10 KOs). Yes, this one takes the cake. Rated #1/1 in Slovakia according to Boxrec. She’s the female Reggie Strickland.
Googled Mariana Juarez and is there, but her real name is Maria Anastacia Juarez Trejos, and BoxRec has her record that started in 1988 under Mariana Juarez. Check youtube for a fight with Jackie Nava or Ana Maria Torres, good fights
Was looking through the Boxrec page of Juarez, and noticed somebody on her record by the name of Myung Ok Ryu. Ryu is from North Korea, and had three of her fights there, as well as three abroad (China twice & Mexico). Didn’t know Pro Boxing was a thing in that country.
I didn’t know they had fights (or any other sporting events) in North Korea, but Hyun Mi Choi was also born in North Korea. They used to call her Defector Girl because she switched to represent South Korea.
Drifting further off-topic here, but another Country I wouldn’t have expected to find a Pro Boxer from….and a former Champion at that…is the Faroe Islands. Sarah Mahfoud was born there. Had no idea…
That one I did not know, although I probably should have. Mahfoud is good. She won a round or two against Serrano and even rocked her once. Whenever Serrano gets around to splitting up those titles, if she’s still around Mahfoud will probably be a favorite to pick one of them up.
If his scar tissue hold up, I think D-13 (Derevyanchenko) takes this, he’s been in real close fights with “way” better competition. GGG, Jacobs, Charlo and Adames are better than anything on Munguias record.
Cue the mariachi band, pop the Tequila.
Its party time!!!
Anheuser-Busch can rebound simply by putting Munguia’s mug on the can.
As far as Im concerned Munguia’s fights are mainly Mexican celebrations. The crowd needs to be drunk to actually enjoy his fights.
His ring walks are the only good part of the fight.
Quit hating, seems like you have an inferiority complex. Wait, doesn’t seem, you do have it.
There won’t be a lack “El Niño” presence in this card that’s for sure also may the best “Kid” win
Mungiua finally gets tested
Munguia vs Derevyanchenko is going to be an entertaining fight if Sergi has anything left in the tank. Im looking forward to a turning back of the clock and a disruption of the betting odds. It’s all a matter of how bad Derevyanchenko wants it. Munguía is ripe for the pickings.
Knock the chicks off the card and it’s watchable.

Chicago boxer Kenneth Sims Jr. at No. 2 world ranking – CBS News

By Jori Parys
/ CBS Chicago
CHICAGO (CBS) — Englewood native Kenneth Sims Jr. is making noise in pro boxing.
His latest win last month was his seventh straight, and a WBA super lightweight title eliminator. But as CBS 2’s Jori Parys reported Monday, Sims has fought through obstacles to get where he is – including managing sickle cell.
Sims put on a pair of boxing gloves for the first time at 8 years old.
“My dad forced me to box – and I hated it,” Sims said.
But the young Sims was a natural.
“He picked up things so fast that it was like, ‘Oh, show him this – he has it,” said Sims’ dad, Kenneth Sims Sr.
“He was like, ‘When you learn how to it, you can quit,'” said Sims Jr. “By that point, I didn’t want to quit.”
Sims has fought around the world as a member of the USA Boxing national team, and turned pro in 2014.
He rattled off a 2021 record with seven knockouts since.
But Sims’ latest win raised eyebrows. A 12-round bout against Batyr Akhmedov being ended by majority decision came as no surprise to Sims.
“I seen all the tweets people talk about me seen article people talk about me,” said Sims. “So it was like satisfying to prove them wrong – and satisfying prove people that believed in me right.”
What did Sims prove to himself in that fight?
“Nothing. Nothing,” he said. “I just did what I knew I could do.”
Sims hasn’t lost since a fight since 2018. That was when he noticed something felt off.
“All my energy just went away, and I was just like this – kind of like a zombie before the fight,” said Sims.
Sims was dealing with the side effects of sickle cell – a disease that affects red blood cells’ shape and ability to carry oxygen.
“The first thing they tell you about it is to be careful of strenuous work – so that’s his life,” said Sims’ fiancée, Jailyn Brown. “He has to be sure that he’s taking vitamins; be sure that he’s very hydrated.”
“My mind’s saying do stuff in the ring, but I can’t move, really – my body won’t let me do it. It was a big obstacle for me to overcome,” Sims said. “After I lost, my team, my uncle, my dad – we all was doing research. Went to the doctor got bloodwork stuff done, and I hired nutritionists and stuff. Since I’ve been working with them, I’ve been feeling great.”
Sims ascension to No. 2 in WBA rankings hasn’t come without its challenges but all have led to the present point – preparing with hopes for a world title shot.
“This is where you’re supposed to be. I’ve always said that,” said Sims Sr. “The community we come in you have to figure out how to get through things and that’s always what I’ve preached to him.”
Sims Jr. – a boxer known as “Bossman” – is a true family man with kids of his own, and credits his family as his inspiration. He said it means a lot to be from Chicago, and hopes to one day bring a world title fight to his home city.
Until then, the pro boxer from Englewood will keep working to make his dreams a reality.
“Growing up, I used to watch showtime championship boxing,” said Sims. “Now I’m on it.”
Three fights ago, sims wasn’t ranked. Now he’s No. 2 in world, and will get the first shot to challenge for a world title.

Bar owner among 2 killed after fight leads to shooting outside Sacramento County bar – CBS News

/ CBS Sacramento
SACRAMENTO COUNTY – Two men died after they were shot outside of a bar in Sacramento County early Sunday morning, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies responded to Sacto By Night at 7121 Governors Circle at about 1:45 a.m.
A group of people who were leaving the bar got into a fight outside, leading to a shooting, deputies said.
The victims, who were two men, died at the scene, deputies said. One of them was the owner of the bar.
Investigators with the sheriff’s office believe a group of gang members who initially refused to leave the nightclub at closing is at the center of the incident. Those gang members apparently got involved in a fight in the parking lot, investigators said, with the suspected shooter being one of those gang members.
Witnesses described a white vehicle that took off from the scene. Deputies said the CHP located a vehicle matching the description and detained four people from that vehicle.
The people detained have since been identified as being allegedly involved in the shooting. Several guns have been recovered.
According to the sheriff’s office, the names of the suspects will be released once homicide and related charges are filed.
Brandon comes to CBS13 from Action News Now (KHSL/KNVN) in Chico where he spent two years as the Digital Content Manager.
