Boxing News: Canelo: I'm going to bring everything » June 24, 2023 – Fight News

Published

on

Canelo Alvarez (58-2-2, 39 KOs) is promising to deliver ‘something special’ tomorrow night when he defends his undisputed super middleweight title against John Ryder (32-5, 18 KOs)  in front of over 50,000 hometown fans at the Estadio Akron in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, live on DAZN PPV.
“It’s going to be something special after 12 years,” said Canelo. “I started my career here in Guadalajara in the little arenas. And now we are in the biggest stadium and the biggest response from the people. It’s going to be one of the best nights of my career for sure. I am really excited for this fight.
“I was always thinking about fighting again in Guadalajara of course. You can expect something special, and the result is even better. I’m glad and grateful that the people respond like this. I’m enjoying this moment a lot. I enjoy this because it is hard to put on this kind of fight and have people respond like this. It’s an honor for me and I’m proud of it. I’m going to bring everything tomorrow night.
“It wasn’t about money. There were a lot of things that made it hard to put the fight here. Everything, TV, moving, things had to change here in Guadalajara. It’s hard to do it but you know I’m happy I made this and I’m happy to bring this fight to Guadalajara.
“For a long time, I didn’t train here in Guadalajara so me training here for the whole month is different. I feel different. The vibes are different. My family is here. My grandma is here. So, it’s been different, but I enjoy everything. Eddy Reynoso said to me, ‘You need to enjoy this moment because you deserve it. Enjoy what you do because this is such a big thing’. I am just enjoying and thanking all my people and the response is just amazing, so I enjoy it a lot.
“You know it is going to be a good fight when a fighter is coming forward. John is a good fighter. He’s southpaw and he throws punches from everywhere. It’ll be a little bit difficult in the first rounds, but I have the experience and I need to handle it.”
Including Mexican meat, and Adalay Bird? His favorite judge
Bring everything? Like as if this is a real opponent? Give us a break.
Agree, maybe he needs to save half of that everything for Benavides, Bivol and berterbiev. And let’s not forget that Cuban guy in his same wight-class (who’s name escapes me at this time) that guy is really good. Honorable mention ….yeah Charlo why not, he has sustained very little resistance from his las few opponents.
Don;’t You understand this is a mandatory challenger? Or do you not know how boxing operates? In professional boxing and some other combat sports, a mandatory challenger is an opponent whom a champion must either fight or be forced to vacate their title as champion. This ain’t his doing this is an opponent that they are forcing him to face. Don’t be an idiot.
Alvarez’s comments all week on other websites have demonstrated he is very confident in beating Ryder. Canelo is fully competent to understand that Ryder is simply a tune up fight.
Scooby, if he is not confident against this level of opposition, he needs to start thinking about his next career stint. He can’t beat any of the top dawgs if he’s having issues with confidence against Ryder.
Very true. Yes, I agree.
Yep. The public forgets that tune ups were a thing. The difference is that in today’s world, tuneups are painted with a different brush for marketing reasons.
It is nice to take a break and put on a fight for his hometown fans but do it as a January fight and not a May/September fight.
KO Ryder and get ready for a Canelo/Benavidez showdown in mighty Texas (date 09/16/23) – GET READY, TEXAS!!!
Better yet, he should bring Bivol to San Antonio, TX. Bivol is a live DOG with serious style that makes many fighters look like amateurs.
Haha he’s too hilarious, bring everything against a Bivol at 175 or better opponent…
I’m you fan Canelo but we all know you don’t need your everything to ko Ryder. We’re fans not fools. That being said knock hi ass out and move on to Benavides and forget the light heavyweight division. It would take a monumental tas to beat Bivol, and Berterbiev if you can hurt him you still need to be perfect fo 12 rounds. Honest fan.
wow Canelo is finally fighting a non champion or not taking a huge risk in an opponent? would be nice to see any of the other champions finally step up and take risk and even the the so called top contenders step up and take some risk and im talking about all weight divisions not one of todays fighters fight to be the best the all wont take risk unless the reward “makes sense” lol that phrase right there to me is now standard issue excuses to not be the best just want the big money so they can go play ghetto rich
Shouldn’t be news, he should always bring everything, especially for the amount of money fans fork out.
he wont need everything for this one.
but, he will in his Bivol rematch

Police investigate fight during Hamilton performance in Manchester – The Guardian

Officers were called to altercation between two audience members at touring hit show at Palace Theatre
Police are investigating after a fight broke out between theatregoers during a performance of Hamilton in Manchester.
Officers were called to an altercation between two audience members on Friday night, just days after the hit musical opened at the Palace Theatre at the start of a nationwide tour.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester police said: “Officers were called to Oxford Street in the city centre at about 10.30pm on Friday 24 November 2023 to a report of an assault. An investigation is ongoing at this time with no arrests made.
“Thankfully, injuries sustained are not believed to be life-threatening.”
One report of the incident posted online said “staff were desperately trying to keep them apart” and commended the cast on stage for “not letting it distract them”.
In April, a performance of The Bodyguard at the same theatre was halted after several members of the audience refused to remain seated and refrain from loudly singing, leading to them being “forcibly removed”.
The Bodyguard was reportedly briefly paused during its first act to evict a handful of people, and then shortly before the finale of the show, “mini riots” and “fights” broke out among several people.
A front of house supervisor on the night said police were called because of the “unprecedented level of violence” staff received when asking the audience members to stop.
A report from the Broadcasting, Entertainment, Communications and Theatre union earlier this year found nearly one-third of theatre staff said they had been involved in or witnessed an incident where a venue had to call the police, with 20% having feared for their safety at least once.

Greater Manchester police urged anyone with information about the fight during Hamilton to get in touch: “Anyone with information that may help officers with their inquiries are asked to call 101 quoting incident 3783 of 24 November 2023.”

UFC news: Erin Blanchfield gives update on next fight, title hopes – MMA Junkie

Published

Erin Blanchfield patiently awaits her next UFC assignment.
Although it’s not totally clear what that will be, Blanchfield (12-1 MMA, 6-0 UFC) assumes an important matchup with Manon Fiorot (11-1 MMA, 6-0 UFC) is likely. The two flyweight combatants have established themselves as top contenders in a division that awaits a championship rematch between champion Alexa Grasso and former champion Valentina Shevchenko while they both recover from injury.
“Yeah, it’s definitely stalling,” Blanchfield recently said during an online live stream for digital wallet platform HUMBL. “I feel like I’ve had a couple No. 1 contender fights now. But you know, I’m still pretty young and gained valuable experience in those fights. … Whether it’s an interim or not, I’ll beat (Fiorot), and then I should definitely get a title next.”
Although UFC CEO Dana White has indicated it’s next, no timeline has been revealed for Grasso (16-3-1 MMA, 8-3-1 UFC) vs. Shevchenko (23-4-1 MMA, 12-3-1 UFC). Shevchenko had hand surgery in mid-September. Coincidentally, Grasso underwent hand surgery in early October.
Should there be further delays, Blanchfield wouldn’t mind seeing an interim title implemented. She’s healthy and ready to go, following a slight nasal fracture suffered in a unanimous decision win over Taila Santos in August.
“I haven’t been told about that yet,” Blanchfield said. I would definitely push for that. That’s something I’d definitely be interested in. I’m not sure when Valentina and Alexa are going to be ready to fight again. I know I think they’re on a similar timeline in their recovery. I would hope that if it ends up being longer, they’d have me and Manon fight for an interim.”
