Boxing News: Canelo: I'm going to bring everything » July 22, 2023 – Fight News

Published

on

Canelo Alvarez (58-2-2, 39 KOs) is promising to deliver ‘something special’ tomorrow night when he defends his undisputed super middleweight title against John Ryder (32-5, 18 KOs)  in front of over 50,000 hometown fans at the Estadio Akron in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, live on DAZN PPV.
“It’s going to be something special after 12 years,” said Canelo. “I started my career here in Guadalajara in the little arenas. And now we are in the biggest stadium and the biggest response from the people. It’s going to be one of the best nights of my career for sure. I am really excited for this fight.
“I was always thinking about fighting again in Guadalajara of course. You can expect something special, and the result is even better. I’m glad and grateful that the people respond like this. I’m enjoying this moment a lot. I enjoy this because it is hard to put on this kind of fight and have people respond like this. It’s an honor for me and I’m proud of it. I’m going to bring everything tomorrow night.
“It wasn’t about money. There were a lot of things that made it hard to put the fight here. Everything, TV, moving, things had to change here in Guadalajara. It’s hard to do it but you know I’m happy I made this and I’m happy to bring this fight to Guadalajara.
“For a long time, I didn’t train here in Guadalajara so me training here for the whole month is different. I feel different. The vibes are different. My family is here. My grandma is here. So, it’s been different, but I enjoy everything. Eddy Reynoso said to me, ‘You need to enjoy this moment because you deserve it. Enjoy what you do because this is such a big thing’. I am just enjoying and thanking all my people and the response is just amazing, so I enjoy it a lot.
“You know it is going to be a good fight when a fighter is coming forward. John is a good fighter. He’s southpaw and he throws punches from everywhere. It’ll be a little bit difficult in the first rounds, but I have the experience and I need to handle it.”
Including Mexican meat, and Adalay Bird? His favorite judge
Bring everything? Like as if this is a real opponent? Give us a break.
Agree, maybe he needs to save half of that everything for Benavides, Bivol and berterbiev. And let’s not forget that Cuban guy in his same wight-class (who’s name escapes me at this time) that guy is really good. Honorable mention ….yeah Charlo why not, he has sustained very little resistance from his las few opponents.
Don;’t You understand this is a mandatory challenger? Or do you not know how boxing operates? In professional boxing and some other combat sports, a mandatory challenger is an opponent whom a champion must either fight or be forced to vacate their title as champion. This ain’t his doing this is an opponent that they are forcing him to face. Don’t be an idiot.
Alvarez’s comments all week on other websites have demonstrated he is very confident in beating Ryder. Canelo is fully competent to understand that Ryder is simply a tune up fight.
Scooby, if he is not confident against this level of opposition, he needs to start thinking about his next career stint. He can’t beat any of the top dawgs if he’s having issues with confidence against Ryder.
Very true. Yes, I agree.
Yep. The public forgets that tune ups were a thing. The difference is that in today’s world, tuneups are painted with a different brush for marketing reasons.
It is nice to take a break and put on a fight for his hometown fans but do it as a January fight and not a May/September fight.
KO Ryder and get ready for a Canelo/Benavidez showdown in mighty Texas (date 09/16/23) – GET READY, TEXAS!!!
Better yet, he should bring Bivol to San Antonio, TX. Bivol is a live DOG with serious style that makes many fighters look like amateurs.
Haha he’s too hilarious, bring everything against a Bivol at 175 or better opponent…
I’m you fan Canelo but we all know you don’t need your everything to ko Ryder. We’re fans not fools. That being said knock hi ass out and move on to Benavides and forget the light heavyweight division. It would take a monumental tas to beat Bivol, and Berterbiev if you can hurt him you still need to be perfect fo 12 rounds. Honest fan.
wow Canelo is finally fighting a non champion or not taking a huge risk in an opponent? would be nice to see any of the other champions finally step up and take risk and even the the so called top contenders step up and take some risk and im talking about all weight divisions not one of todays fighters fight to be the best the all wont take risk unless the reward “makes sense” lol that phrase right there to me is now standard issue excuses to not be the best just want the big money so they can go play ghetto rich
Shouldn’t be news, he should always bring everything, especially for the amount of money fans fork out.
he wont need everything for this one.
but, he will in his Bivol rematch

3 possible next opponents for Conor Benn – dazn.com

Published

on

Conor Benn made a successful return to the ring following a 17-month layoff by defeating Rodolfo Orozco via unanimous decision Saturday night in Orlando, Florida, and live on DAZN.
With the victory, "The Destroyer" has plenty of options for a next fight, with a short turnaround for December being the targeted timeframe.
That being said, DAZN put together this short list of possible opponents for the undefeated junior middleweight, who's also comfortable fighting at 147 and 160 pounds.
Despite Benn coasting to a unanimous decision victory over Orozco on Saturday night, Chris Eubank Jr. wasn't exactly impressed with "The Destroyer's" performance.
Eubank took to his X account and posted yawning and sleeping emojis:
Benn caught wind of Eubank's post and responded:
Plus, December in London sounds like a great fit with both British boxers essentially being on the same schedule, as Eubank just defeated Liam Smith in their rematch earlier this month.
With Jermell Charlo set to fight Canelo Alvarez on Saturday night and Terence Crawford expressing interest in fighting the winner of that bout, Tim Tszyu could be looking at a wait to fight the junior middleweight ruler in Charlo as he has been coveting to do.
Well, such a scenario could create the need for a big-name opponent to be booked against Tszyu and Benn would fit that bill. Both Tszyu (23-0, 17 KOs) and Benn (21-0, 14 KOs) are undefeated and ultra physical in their styles, making their possible in-ring pairing all the more mouthwatering.
It might be a longshot to land, but Benn has called out the winner of the upcoming Terence Crawford-Errol Spence Jr. rematch for a fight.
Complications to making this happen would be the winner moving on to an even bigger fight with more money at stake.
But for whatever it's worth, Benn did tell Fight Hub TV that he's more than willing to come to the United States and fight the Crawford-Spence 2 winner.

Unbeaten junior wlterweight Tiger Johnson (9-0, 5 KOs) defeated Jonathan Montrel (15-2, 10 KOs) by UD (80-72, 80-72, 80-72) over eight rounds.
Dante Benjamin Jr. (7-0, 5 KOs) exploded out of the gate to score a knockdown, then get a stoppage right after his opponent, Mirady Zola got up.  The light heavyweight contest ended with the TKO at the 1:56 mark of the first round.  The loss drops Zola to (4-3, 1 KO).
Super middleweight DeAndre Ware (16-4-2, 9 KOs) won by six round unanimous decision (58-56, 59-55, 59-55) over Decarlo Perez (19-9-1, 6 KOs).
Rance Ward touched leather to the face of fellow junior middleweight Husam Al Mashhadi, often, over six rounds. Ward appeared fresh and was able to walk Mashhadi down during the six rounds to take the majority decision (57-57, 58-56, 59-55) victory and improve to (8-5-1, 2 KOs). Meanwhile, it’s back to the drawing board for Mashhadi (6-1, 6 KOs), who suffered his first loss.
Junior Middleweight Nicklaus Flaz (11-2, 7 KOs) won a close fight by majority decision (76-76, 78-74, 77-75) over previously unbeaten Jahi Tucker (10-1, 5 KOs). The fight, which went all eight rounds, had moments where both fighters showed some ability to throw combinations.
Junior Lightweight Tyler McCreary (18-2-1, 8KOs) got the hometown crowd excited by landing strong left hooks to the body, left hooks to the head, and a strong right cross to his opponent, Deivi Julio (26-14, 16 KOs). Julio, who fought hard, did not have enough to sway the judges. The judges all saw the fight in favor of McCreary (59-54, 57-56, 57-56).
Why isnt this garbage on TV anywhere??
It’s on ESPN+
de Oliveira was embarrassing. Just stood there smiling and waiting to be hit. The ref literally had to tell him to fight back in round 1.
As boxing fans we’re all used to shocking mismatches… but ESPN take it to a new level.
I will keep an eye on Mason and see what develops for him.
