FIGHTNEWS CANADA's
2009 Prospect of the Year

Eleider Alvarez

Looking for the next world champion to come out of Canada? Look no further than light-heavyweight Eleider Alvarez. The highly sought Columbian prospect was signed by Group Yvon Michel and looks to be on the fast track towards pugilistic success. Alvarez made his professional debut in late August and went 3-0 in his maiden year, showing both poise and power in all three contests. The former PanAm Gold Medalist didn’t get the usual fodder served up debuting boxers though, his opponents were a combined 40-34-7 and he made the most of the opportunities given to him, scoring two knockouts and dominating in the third, scoring a knockdown along the way.

Honourable mention: Arash Usmanee

A celebrated amateur and five-time Canadian Amateur Champion, the Red Deer fighter got his career off to a 4-0 start fighting in both his home Province of Alberta and in Montreal.
