FIGHTNEWS CANADA's 2009 Fight of the Year
It was a promotion that galvanized the City of Montreal . Pascal or Diaconu? That was the question and a packed house showed up to find out the answer, and while the fans were sold on the sizzle, they were given a prime beef that delivered the goods. Pascal used his speed and ring movement in the early rounds and when the time came to trade with the heavy hitting Diaconu, he did that too, scoring a knockdown in the fifth round. “Smart fight,” was how Diaconu summed up his opponent afterwards. Diaconu was certainly with his moments too, landing big as he did with a right hand in the 11th round but never quite being able to follow up against the fleet footed Pascal who left it all in the ring. This one was a classic and there was no doubt that when the final bell sounded that they would do it all over again. It’s not often when both fighters stock rises as a result of the same fight, but that’s exactly what happened with Sebastien Demers and Nicholson Poulard in an exciting bout that both fighters scored knockdowns in. Demers was able to pick himself up from the canvas in the early going and showed poise and presence and never quit versus Poulard who gradually wore down and was knocked down in the seventh but kept fighting until the end in this NABF title fight. |
